Q. What is a Reportable/Non-Reportable crash? Click here for answer.
A. A motor vehicle crash is reportable when there is either
$1500 damage or more, or involves personal injury. There are no exclusions to this
definition.
Q. What is a Short Form crash report? Click here for answer.
A. Short form crash report should only be used for single vehicle crashes involving wildlife
with $1500 or more damage to the vehicle.
Q. Is a bicycle classified as a unit? Click here for answer.
A. A bicycle is not classified as a unit; therefore,
a bicyclist involved in a motor vehicle crash should be listed as a pedestrian.
Q. How do I enter a hit and run crash or a crash involving a parked vehicle without a driver or any vehicle information. Click here for answer.
A. When entering information pertaining to the unit that left the scene of the crash you should select "NO"
in the "Is all information known/applicable for this unit?" field. You should also select "NO" for this field
if the unit you are entering was a parked vehicle without a driver.
Q. How do I validate a report if I keep getting a WARNING? Click here for answer.
A. A TraCS form will validate with warnings. Warnings are designed to bring attention to an event
that does not occur on a regular basis. Examples of when TraCS will display a warning:
1. A driver who is under 14 or over 100 years of age.
2. A crash that has occured on private property.
Q. Where do I locate a crash when the vehicle ended up OFF ROADWAY? Click here for answer.
A. When a unit involved in a crash ends up off the roadway, the incident location tool should be used
to locate the crash where the crash occurred.
Q. When I open TraCS there are no usernames visible in the login screen? Click here for answer.
A. An empty login window occurs when TraCS cannot access the user files. TraCS user files are generally
located out on a server. Confirm that your computer's network cable is plugged in, restart the computer and if the problem persists
contact your network administrator.
Q. Is a trailer classified as a unit? Click here for answer.
A. A trailer is not a unit. A trailer is defined in the "Cargo Body Type" field of the crash report.
If a truck pulling a boat is involved in a crash and only the boat is damaged, the vehicle information for the
truck is entered for unit information and then the selection for boat is put into the "Cargo Body Type" field.
Q. I started crash report and had to leave to go out on patrol. Someone closed the report
and I haven’t finished it. How do I find my report and finish it? Click here for answer.
A. Open up TraCS and Click on "Manager." Click on search criteria and select your user name. Under that you may select
by form and highlight MARS and then click on the "Go" button located under search. When the list has populated, select
the crash report you need to complete and click on "edit" so that it will open and allow
changes. When completed, click to save the report before you close the program.
Q. I have completed my crash report and it has been accepted. I want to look at it, but if I do
I am afraid I will once again have to verify and accept the report. Can I look at it without changing the status? Click here for answer.
A. Yes. Reports can be viewed by highlighting the report in the contact manager and then clicking on the view button in the bottom tray. The report will
open in view mode, but be advised it will not allow you to make any changes to the report.
Q. How do I properly complete a crash report when it involves a train? Click here for answer.
A. A train is entered in the crash report as a unit. Complete the vehicle section with any applicable information from the train. If possible complete the driver section with
the train engineer's information. In the "Vehicle Configuration" field select "22-Train".
